The automation of designing overhead power transmission lines and substations started with the first computers. The widespread use of computer-aided design of overhead lines and substations started with ES and SM EVM.

With the introduction of personal computers, valuable program means and databases experienced great losses. Some part of the programs and program complexes were ported to PC that used DOS back then.
It was impossible to port many programs to Windows. Computer-aided design departments in project institutions ceased to exist

Below you can find brief descriptions of design technologies for overhead power transmission lines, substations and automation of particular design operations by previously developed program means (ES, SM EVM in DOC on PC). Some part of the programs have been ported to Windows.
